It’s as much a kitchen ornament as it is a juicer. And with those beautifully colored cookware and bakeware sets, from the enamel to the silicone, there is much to please the eye. But before we unleash our inner favorite TV chef, we need to ask ourselves the following questions, some of which depend on what we’re considering buying:

Do I actually need this and will I really use it?
Is this gadget a triumph of form over function?
Will this help me be more efficient in the kitchen?
Can I use it in the microwave?
Is it dishwasher safe?
Will it last, and what kind of guarantee comes with it?
Is there space in my kitchen?
I’m not saying you shouldn’t choose something that’s attractive to look at, merely that attractiveness shouldn’t distract you from everything else.

Some kitchen tools are very expensive, others are cheap. Don’t let that fool you into thinking that expensive is necessarily better. Equally, something that seems too cheap may break after a short period of use or perform badly. So resist buying on impulse, do some research, and buy only what you will use. In this respect, a low fat kitchen is no different from a regular kitchen.

Kitchen Tools Information Posted By: Blueshoots.com

Various types of kitchen tools

A Good Quality, Sharp Chef's Knife

This tool is a must in many cooks' kitchens. Use a chef's knife to quickly chop, cut, slice, dice and mince fresh produce. You can do some procedures faster with a chef's knife than with your food processor. It's important to keep your knife sharp. Check what type of sharpening procedure or device the manufacturer of your knives recommends.

Food Processor and Blender

A food processor can make quick work of slicing, dicing, shredding, grating and chopping -- especially for large quantities of food. For smaller quantities, hand-held kitchen tools such as a chef's knife or a grater sometimes are faster.

A blender makes quick work of pureeing ingredients, such as for soups, and is terrific for making smoothies! Buy a heavy-duty blender if you want to crush ice. Some people like an immersion blender for pureeing soups in the pot or frothing hot chocolate.

Kitchen Tools Information Posted By: Blueshoots.com

My Kitchen Tools

Most of us have gadgets that sounded like a good idea at the time, but we never use them. Not only are exceptionally comfortable to grip due to the black rubber handle inserts, they are made with a zinc alloy composite which makes them extremely hard wearing.
Their smooth contours give them an elegant look and they have been manufactured with efficency in mind thus helping protect the wrists. Whether it's kitchen cutlery, a pocketknife, or a pair of scissors, we count on these tools to slice, peel, and cut a variety of objects. All too often, though, we use knives in ways they weren't intended, and we neglect to properly maintain them. When you use the wrong cutting instrument for the job at hand or fail to keep it sharp, it not only loses its effectiveness, but it can also become dangerous. Here, then, are some guidelines to selecting and maintaining your kitchen knives, scissors, and other cutting instruments.

Kitchen Cutlery: There are three important components to remember about kitchen knives. First, view kitchen cutlery as an investment that will last a lifetime and invest in the best you can afford. Second, use the right knife for the right job. Third, keep your kitchen knives sharp.

Kitchen knives are shaped according to the job they're designed for. A paring knife, for example, is short and gives you control for small, precise jobs like peeling and trimming fruits and vegetables. A boning knife, on the other hand, is longer and narrower, with a pointed blade that is used for working around joints. A bread knife's serrated edge is meant to slice through hard crusts or soft pastries, whereas a carving knife features the long blade necessary for slicing thin pieces of meat. The chef's knife is the piece of cutlery that is central to the slicing and dicing needed for almost all food preparation.

Since fine cutlery is an investment, it's important to put effort into maintaining it. To this end, always wash kitchen knives by hand, since dishwashers can damage the handles and hurt the blades. Similarly, store your knives in a wooden block or wall magnet. If you store your knives in a drawer, be sure they have plastic covers that will protect the blades. Most importantly, sharpen the blades often. This not only makes them more effective cutting instruments, but also makes them safer to use. A dull knife invites accidents because you have to apply additional pressure in order to cut, which increases the likelihood that your hand will slip.

Scissors: First, it's important to note the difference between scissors and shears. Scissors are typically a maximum of six inches long and have identical finger rings on the handle. Shears, on the other hand, are longer than six inches and have one finger ring that is larger than the other. Like knives, some scissors and shears are designed for a specific use. In order to maintain their integrity, it's important not to use them for other applications. For example, sewing shears should always be used to cut fabric, and never be used to cut paper. Likewise, scissors designed to cut hair should be only used for hair. Maintaining scissors in good condition involves wiping them down with a dry cloth after each use and occasionally oiling the screw at the base of the blades. Unlike knives, which you can sharpen yourself, it's best to leave the sharpening of scissor blades to the professionals. At the same time, they can also adjust the screw as necessary to keep the blades in proper relation to one another.

Kitchen Tools Information Posted By: Blueshoots.com
Original Source :http://articles.simplysearch4it.com/

Knives – The Chef's Main Tools of the Trade
When most people think of knives, what comes to mind is usually basic information that's not particularly interesting or beneficial. But there's a lot more to knives than just the basics. Is everything making sense so far? If not, I'm sure that with just a little more reading, all the facts will fall into place. Everyone knows that the very most important tools to a chef are knives. Forget about the cheap, disposable paring knives used by the dozens by restaurant line servers. An executive chef leans more toward the likes of the Denka No Hoto chef knives that run about $430 for a handmade 13" piece of cutlery touted as “among the finest in the world.” Some chefs get so possessive of their knives, they refuse to allow anyone else to clean them other than themselves, fearing the sought-after, razor-like edge may be marred or damaged.

Professional chefs advise investing from at least $250 to $400 for a good set of quality knives that includes a paring, filleting, French, carving, and bread knife, as well as a sharpening steel and a fork. And this is a “starter” set. As a chef gains more experience – and makes more money! – he or she soon begins to covet the hundreds-of-dollars-per-individual-knife cutting instruments. Sharpening steels come as adjuncts to knives, and it is not a one-kind-sharpens-all proposition, either. Steels must match the type of knife they are to sharpen. Coarser steel is used for butcher knives, for instance, while finer steel works better on paring knives. So along with your knives, you should also keep on hand the proper steels with which to keep them in excellent condition.

Cheap knife sets only mean trouble in the long run, so go ahead, take the leap, and make the investment. When buying, always inspect the blades and look for less alloys (metal mixes) in the composition and more tempered carbon stainless steel, instead. With a poor knife, you spend a lot of time sharpening it because it just won’t hold an edge. Say you’re in a hurry (as most chefs are) and don’t sharpen it, then use it anyway. You may wind up cutting yourself – badly. One trip to the emergency room, and no one will ever need to warn you again about using dull knives. As one chef said, “A good knife is like a good dog. Treat it well, and it’s your friend forever.” Mandolines, while not knives, perform much the same function. These instruments slice, dice, and julienne vegetables, fruits, and meats to the user’s specifications – and are totally hand-operated, no electricity required. Food sliced using a mandoline comes out looking neat and uniform and cooks more evenly during deep-fat frying or sautéing. While a professional chef would most likely opt for the $200 variety found at restaurant supply houses, mandolines can be bought for as low as $30, but just like knives, it’s best to buy quality over cheapness – which always winds up costing you more in the end.

Chefs use many tools besides knives – blenders, mixers, food processors, colanders, all kinds of hand tools such as whisks, spatulas, wooden spoons, and so on, but what struck one professional chef as his second most-needed, on-the-job tool after knives? A good attitude. This chef says that with a good approach to his profession, he is free to thrive on the adrenaline rush of busy nights at work, knowing he’s in top form, and always being on the lookout for ways to improve.

Kitchen Tools Information Posted By: Blueshoots.com
Original Source : http://www.goarticles.com

Kitchen Knife -- Best Tool in Cutlery

Kitchen knife is the most used tool in our kitchens. We use several tools of our cutlery set in our day to day life to slice and dice the food. These cutlery sets help us by simplifying our kitchen or cookery needs. Kitchen knives are usually used the most of all other tools of cutlery set.

Local kitchen stores generally have a good variety of knives of all good or poor quality. If you are shopping for cutlery then you must check the steel quality and edge retention of the tools. We all love the tools that can easily handle our cooking and kitchen chores and has good quality cutlery set. The best cutting tools that serves well in the long run are made up of high carbon steels but they must be cared for properly to prevent rust.

You can also go for finer cutlery brands such as Wusthof to J.A. Henckels that have a great lifespan in even the busier of kitchens. I would suggest you not to waste your time or money and always purchase a good quality cutlery set of a reputed company. Poor quality knives often result in accidents as they tend to cut anything except the thing they are told to or become obsolete very soon.

I am among the people who love to collect best cutlery in their kitchen as hobby. I have almost all the high range reputed company knives in my kitchen. The chef's knife is the most important knife to invest in as you do slicing, dicing and carving with this knife. The second most important knife is the decent sized serrated bread knife for those baked goods such as bread. You can also add small paring knife to deal with fruits and vegetables. I also have a set of steak knives to do all those other tasks. It's never bad to have a good cutlery set in your kitchen.

You can browse on the internet for good quality cutlery at reasonable prices. You can also search for the best discounted deals on the internet.

Kitchen Tools Information Posted By: Blueshoots.com
Original Source : http://www.goarticles.com

Cooking With A Dutch Oven

Cooking with a Dutch Oven is fun and easy. Any meal can be cooked in a Dutch Oven that would normally be prepared indoors. The Dutch Oven is a great addition to camping and can be very handy in a power outage. In many parts of the country you can even join club that is designed for fun, cooking, sharing recipes, teaching Dutch Oven cooking, and Dutch Oven Cook offs.

Cooking is simple and easy to master. All you need is a good oven, charcoal, and practice. Dutch Ovens can be purchased in most any sporting goods store and most ovens come with a complete instruction book, a small book of recipes, and a guide for oven temperatures when using charcoal briquettes. Many accessories are available but not necessary to get started cooking. Choose a Dutch Oven with legs that will stand up over the charcoal and a lid that has a lip to hold the charcoal on the lids surface. Several brands of ovens are available and vary in quality. When purchasing your oven you should check for smooth texture inside the oven, a lid that fits. A cast iron oven is the best choice but will weigh the most.

The most common size used for most recipes is a 12” inch oven. The 12” oven will cook a small chicken or a large family sized side dish.

When you get home with your oven the enclosed instructions will tell you how to cure, clean, and cook with your oven. Most kitchen tools will work when cooking with the oven but you remember not to use tools that will scratch and remove the cured surface. I will add that a lid lifter and a lid stand is a great help when cooking with the ovens. Lifting the lid and picking up the oven when hot much is easier when using a lifter. If cooking with campfires coals the lifter will also protect you from the heat as you the oven from the fire. When removing the lid to check the meal the oven lid stand is a handy tool. The stand will protect your lid from dirt and your table from heat.

Kitchen Tools Information Posted By: Blueshoots.com
Original Source : http://www.articlecube.com/

Essential Kitchen Tools

Professional chefs frequently have an assortment of specialized tools and gadgets at their disposal. Many, however, get by with a surprisingly small number of key cooking tools and utensils -- a good saute skillet, a couple of sharp knives, and a few essential cooking pots and pans. Whether you're a pro or a novice, there are a few items that nearly every kitchen should have. Here are three that Chef Paul Sturkey recommends highly.

A good knife sharpener. Make sure that you have a sharpener that works on plain, straight blade as well as serrated blades. These simple devices provide a reasonably sharp edge to kitchen knives simply bypulling the blade back-to-front through the notched opening. Even strokes and even pressure are key when using this device.

A good instant-read pocket thermometer. Get one that has large numbers that are easy to read from a distance. Some come with sleeves with printed guidelines for cooking various meats to different levels -- rare, medium or well-done.

A pastry bag is not just for decorating cakes. You can also use them for a number of other purposes including stuffing fowl and creating a nice presentation for mashed potatoes.

Kitchen Tools Information Posted By: Blueshoots.com

What are the Most Important Kitchen Tools?

Acquiring the most important kitchen tools is a marathon, not a sprint. Young adults furnishing their first apartments may get by with a few nonstick pans and a fork. Newlyweds often receive essentials such as cookware, bakeware, and kitchen tools as wedding gifts. Homemakers add to this collection of kitchen tools over time, finally owning a strawberry corer or nutmeg grater by the time they completely retire from cooking.

So what are the most important kitchen tools to own? Each cook's checklist may vary, but there are some essential pieces of equipment that everyone should have in order to prepare proper meals. In the simplest terms, raw things must be converted into cooked things, and big things must be converted into little things. These are the basic principles behind most kitchen tools.

One of the most important kitchen tools is the multi-purpose manual can opener. There's simply no other way to open most canned foods, and a separate bottle opener or church key is usually one of the first kitchen tools to disappear in an emergency. A quality manual can opener will last for years with minimal maintenance and allow homeowners to open cans even when there is no household power available. A multi-purpose manual can opener is one of the most essential kitchen tools for all stages of adult living.

Knives are also important kitchen tools, since they aid in both food preparation and service. A set of steak knives is essential for cutting through meats and other fibrous foods. A quality chef's knife is versatile enough for chopping vegetables, carving meats, and even rough peeling. Other important knives to own are paring knives for processing fruits and vegetables, filet knives for preparing meat and fish portions, and a butcher's knife for breaking down large meats.

For raw food preparation, peelers and graters are also vital kitchen tools. A vegetable peeler can make short work of peeling carrots, potatoes, cucumbers, and other raw vegetables with skins or peels. Foods such as hard cheeses and whole spices may need to be grated, so a grater with several different blades is also an important kitchen tools. Many beginning cooks start out with a four-sided grater featuring a coarse grater, fine grater, and cheese slicer on the exterior walls.

Sometimes, food preparation requires a little more horsepower, so blenders and food processors are also important kitchen tools. A food processor with several different blade attachments can perform a number of services for the cook. Ingredients can be blended together in a puree or simply combined for a salad. Dough can also be kneaded in a food processor, or prepared in another important kitchen tools- a standing mixer. For other blending or mixing tasks, an electric blender with variable speeds is also an essential tool for the kitchen.

Kitchen Tools Information Posted By: Blueshoots.com

18/10 polished 6mm stainless steel richly finished with 24k gold plating on the stay-cool handles and knobs. I decided to break into this new line rather small, I bought a spatula. And boy was I impressed. I can’t wait to branch out to silicone muffin pans, which feel and look like rubber that you can twist, and presto, muffins should pop right out!

I’ve put the spatula through a trial run, and after a year, it still looks new. And yes, I did use it! It has no missing corners; which was usually the case with the old style, which melted away with use. Silicone baking tools have longer handles, and are dishwasher safe.

But their best feature is that the silicone is rated to withstand heat temperatures without melting. However, these ratings vary by manufacturer. My spatula is rated and labeled to withstand 450 degrees. I’ve noticed that some have higher heat ratings of 900 degrees. However, the handles or other parts may not be heat resistant.

Kitchen Tools Information Posted By:
<a href="http://www.blueshoots.com", target="_blank", title="Variety of Kitchen Tools at Online Store">Blueshoots.com

How to Organize Kitchen Tools?

Knives, odd baking tools and barbecue gadgets can quickly wreak havoc on your kitchen's carefully constructed organization system. Put these kitchen tools where they belong--and where you won't forget that you even own them. Here is the key steps to oraganize <a href="http://www.blueshoots.com/products.asp?subcategory=Tools&category=Kitchen" target="_blank", title="Get variety of Kitchenware Tools">kitchen tools :

--> Edit your collection: Throw out or give away that rusty serrated knife, the apple peeler you've never used and the caked-withgrease grill brush.

--> Keep knives in a knife block, on a magnetic strip on your wall (unless you have young kids) or covered with plastic blade protectors in a drawer.

--> Store the kitchen tools you use often (can opener, vegetable peeler, measuring spoons)in your silverware drawer, where you can get to them easily.

--> Keep lesser-used cutlery and tools (boning knives, oyster shuckers, cherry pitters, meat tenderizers) in a covered plastic container tucked inside a drawer. Tape a list of what's inside to the top of the lid.
